On 9th May, the FGCC - located 10 miles west of Paris - had the privilege of opening its course and dedicating its members and staff to “European Union Day”. Each of its 27 holes was identified by one of the 27 flags of the Union. Half of them, represented by their Golfing bodies, answered positively to our invitation.
A shot from a gun started this 27-hole tournament under bright skies with parties of 4 and 3 breaks and a 9th-hole buffet.
The European anthem was played and there were different speeches recalling the importance of the European movement for peace and understanding for its people; and of course there was an award ceremony. Georges Barbaret, the French president of the FFG, and Michel Refait, president of GCCF, underlined the fact that, given the number of participants, European Golf has finally made its mark.
All of players emphasized how pleased they felt after participating in this first event and hoped to come back next year.
We thank everyone for their support and looking forward to seeing even more nations represented next year.

Jaime Gonzalez Sola, a very close friend of many of us in the irrigation sector, recently passed away at his home in Barcelona after being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour earlier this year.
Jaime worked for L.R. Nelson International as European Sales and Marketing Director from June 2003 to March 2007, before occupying the post of General Director at Master Riego in Madrid, Spain.
During this short period he worked tirelessly and gained the trust, respect and, above all, affection of all the professionals in the irrigation sector.
Jaime was a very special person, kind and genuine. He will be deeply missed by his family and all his friends.
On behalf of the whole industry, we send our most sincere condolences to his family, with whom we respectfully share the pain and grief, and to whom we offer our support and solidarity.
