Centre Pivot Irrigation: How to Avoid and Solve Problems of Wheel Slippage and Getting Bogged Down in Difficult Terrain?

Many criteria are used when choosing between centre pivot irrigation or lateral moves. The machines are very variable in size and farmers would like to be able to reap the benefits offered by this irrigation technique, even on fields where the repeated passing back and forth of the wheels can eventually become quite a problem.

In fact, poorly drained and muddy areas can represent a potential problem in the field to be irrigated. Getting across these areas is sometimes impossible, which leads to the machine being kept back in a place of safety. On the other hand, the presence of deep circular ruts can slow down the harvesting machinery and hamper cultivation work.
The manufacturers of pivot irrigation machines have, of course, endeavoured to come up with technical solutions for preventing the formation of deep wheel tracks or ruts, with the machines even getting bogged down and stuck.
There are two main types of measures that can be taken to prevent the occurrence of any potential problems connected with moving wheels in difficult terrain, i.e. those related to the nozzle equipment and those directly linked to the wheel drive of the pivot or linear move.
