Special Center Pivots: Problems of Wheel Slippage and Getting Bogged Down, Wheel Track Solutions

Since our article that appeared in Irrigazette No. 117, we have received additional technical details from many manufacturers. We publish them as follows:

The key word here is to “avoid” the problem rather than having to “solve” a problem after a system has been installed.
All elements that contribute to a successful system design should be considered. Many times system designs shift the priorities and compromise the elements that can cause these issues.
All elements in system design should, firstly, consider the soil, terrain, and water application efficiency. After all, irrigation efficiency should be the first priority. Application rates that exceed soil intake rates and allow water to run off to other areas contribute towards these “boggy” conditions. This run-off of irrigation water reduces efficiency.
